Surfin’ different events in LA
Last week-end was the 20th BigCity Forum, which is a series of events that give an introduction to sustainable creative communities in LA. This time, art curators from LA presented their work, followed by a discussion. It was great to see how packed the Honor Fraser Gallery was. The four curators were Andrew Berardini, Shamim Momim, Pilar Tompkins Rivas and Franklin Sirmans and the discussion was mostly about how they are changing the future of the practice. The BigCity Forum #21 will take place at Goethe institute where I have not been yet. Looking forward to finally meeting the German cultural scene here in LA :) … And I will hopefully be learning more about architecture that is what the event will be about.
Unfortunately, I only found out later that I missed the Festival at the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock with this incredible line-up!
On Monday, I went to another gallery event - this time a gallery-turned-record store. I saw some funny objects there. Check them out at the Museum of Public Fiction in Highland Park. It’s on until 4 January.
I went to Digital Music Forum West all of Wed/Thurs this week, met lots of interesting people and saw good panels. For everyone who missed it, there are notes on Digital Media Wire! I found these panels the most interesting: Mobile, Touring, and Cloud Services. Digital Media Wire produces conferences in the USA in very similar areas or industries like C’n’B, just that each industry gets their own conferences whereas C’n’B is a platform for all on one platform with horizontal themes that stir the dialogue within and across the industries. Digital Media Wire are also happening almost every week, so I plan on making it to another one.
Now, Culture Collide festival continues in different venues around the city this week-end and different Export Bureaus present their country’s artists. I’ll check out Poland, maybe UK and Israel.
slowing down in the heat
C’n’B continues going into the four winds - my colleagues seem to be on a country count race lately. I have been communicating with people who are in movement constantly - everyone seems to be working on trains, from airports and hotel rooms.
I stayed in Los Angeles. I followed up with some of our wonderful partners of C’n’B 2010 and researched more exiting projects (more about that will follow soon). I was glad to work from one place as moving was also almost impossible because LA was hit by a heat wave this week and it was exhausting to be outside (44°c/113°F!!!).
Tomorrow I will be at Big City Forum at Honor Fraser Gallery in LA. Big City Forum push forth a creative cities agenda and helps foster dialogue around sustainable creative communities. I went to one of their events at the Design School last year and look forward to seeing where it developed.
Other interesting events are coming up next week: Digital Music Forum West and on 9 Oct. Design Week LA starts with a promising multi-gallery event called beyond eden.
